About
Welcome To The Official Brian Nielsen Blog!
Many people want to know what Brian Nielsen, a civil engineer with a passion for the outdoors, is doing with internet marketing and network marketing. Well, it is easy to understand after you learn a little more about me. Hopefully I can help you see how all the pieces fit together.
Back in the olden days…
I was born and still am a California boy, raised in the SF Bay area. My time in high school was great and I somehow succeeded in getting some good grades even with hours of extracurricular activities including sports, church, student government, music, and work. Fortunately, I have always had a very good memory and could recall material from my readings and lectures quite easily.
A young entrepreneur…
Work! Did you notice that in the previous paragraph? I started very early earning money around our neighborhood. I went to many of the homes and asked if I could take care of the yards for them. My father had taught my brother (hilarious stories about Greg and me to come) and me how to do some basic landscaping so why not use that knowledge and make a little money? I quickly learned that I should work for a monthly fee instead of hourly or even weekly. This was great in the winter when rain and the lack of growth in the yards often made it so I had very little work some weeks. However, I still got paid! Yipee! This was my first exposure to the concept of “residual income”. I liked it!
Bezerkley, here I come…
My father was an engineer and when I entered the University of California at Berkeley I determined that I should pursue engineering too. Of course, no one ever saw me as an engineer. I did have a very analytical mind but I was also very outgoing and loved to interact with people. Someone once described a “loquacious” engineer as one who looked at your shoes when he spoke. (Think about it…it’s kinda funny.) I have always been much, much more of an extrovert.
Anyways…I wanted to make my dad happy and proud like most sons so I studied civil engineering. Even though I had saved money in high school and worked full time in the summer, I did not want to worry about every penny so I went out and got a part time job working at a restaurant. Since I was too young to be a waiter, I became a top busboy for a couple years and then a competent and entertaining waiter. I made so many friends during those years, many of which are still very close. I mention this experience because I learned so much about human nature. That information has become important and extremely valuable to me in life.
A job is good but…
After receiving a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Engineering I moved to Santa Barbara to enjoy the ocean and a great job. During the next ten years, I also learned about the world of investing. My analytical mind came in handy in learning how to evaluate the risk and reward and predictable outcome of various opportunities. I assisted some friends in evaluation and soon, I was invited to participate in numerous investments. I started very small because I did not have a fortune yet and also because I have always been rather conservative with money.
This is where my knowledge and love of “residual income” grew significantly. I figured out that is was much better to work very hard and smart today in order to earn income for years to come. The concept of working a “job” for someone else became less and less attractive.
Moving right along…OK, wake up!
Today, I love to help…
Today, my wife and I enjoy multiple sources of income coming from stocks, hotel and mountain resort ownerships, oil and gas partnerships, and network marketing. Oh yeah…I never told you how I got into network marketing? Actually, my wife suggested I take a look at some companies. She knew that I would do some serious due diligence. I told her no to lots and lots of companies. Finally, one company caught my attention. That was five years ago and today, she has a successful and thriving business with that same company.
I hope you all have or had an amazing mother like mine. She taught me about giving to others and being willing to help people even when it was not simple or easy. How thankful I am for her Christian upbringing and the many things she taught me by wonderful example. For many years now, I have loved giving back to others. I have served on numerous nonprofit boards and even served as the Executive Director of a foundation for a few years. Today, my wife (who like my mom has a huge heart) and I support numerous causes. We look forward to increasing the number of children we support through Compassion International and Acres of Love.
We live part of the time in Santa Barbara, California and the rest of the year in Las Vegas, Nevada. My wife and I have two daughters and three grandsons. My interests include most sports. I love to golf, ski, fly fish, hike, play tennis and beach volleyball, run, and … My wife and I are active in church and seek out areas of ministry. We love healthy living, movies, travel, theater, and spending time with family and friends. Our closets are filled with lots and lots of games. So be prepared to lock up with us for some hilarious hours of gaming.
